Silver City Blues Retain Scottish Masters Championship Trophy

On the 19th and 20th of April the club competed in the Scottish Masters Championships in Edinburgh. A fuller report will follow but the highlights were as follows.

The club retained the top club trophy, winning it for a 20th time in the 23 occasions it has been contested.  REN 96 were runner-up with Heart of Midlothian in third.

We won too many medals to list here but special mention goes to Kelly McIntosh, Audrey Cooper, Chris Ferguson, Martin Snape, Andrew Evans, Bert Philip and Farqhuar Macrae who all won the best in age category awards.

The Meet was notable for the number of records that the club members amassed. By our counting there were 24 Scottish Masters records spread amongst Kelly McIntosh , Laura Robertson, Chris Ferguson, Bill Reid (3), Martin Snape (5), Audrey Copper (5) and topped off with a massive 8 for Farqhuar Macrae. Four of Audrey’s records were also British Masters records and among these the 400 I.M. was a European Masters record.

Further awards were announced at the Championship dinner that evening with Kevin Reynard winning the top men’s 50 metre backstroke trophy with Martin Snape and Audrey Cooper winning the equivalent for men’s 50 metre breaststroke and women’s 1500 freestyle respectively. Martin and Audrey were named as the winners of the Scottish Masters Decathlon’s while Chris Ferguson was in third place.
