Silver City Takes Home the Scottish Masters Championships 2022 Trophy

On the 9th of April 2022, a 20 strong team of swimmers from Silver City Blues journeyed south to compete in the Scottish National Open Short Course Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at Tollcross International Swimming Pool.

The team consisting of; Brian Bain, Dawn Burke, Day Campbell, Audrey Cooper, Keith Dunnett, Sue Flaherty, Bill Forbes, Andrew Gordon, Martin Hodge, Susan Jensen, Peter Long, Ailsa and Gillian Main, Kelly McIntosh, Alison Pirie, Jamie Reekie, Bill Reid, Andy Robertson, Greg Smedley, and Andy Wheeler competed against a field of 87 teams comprised of 356 entrants, to come out as the overall winners of the team trophy for 2022. Silver City finished with 718 points, clinching the trophy against our friends and rivals, Aberdeen Dolphins who came runners up with 577. Warrender following up in third position with 458 points.

Special mentions to Audrey Cooper who broke a Scottish Record in the 100m Individual Medley, Audrey also won her Age Group with total points haul of 60. Also to Gillian Main who tied first in her age group with a points total of 46. Also, congratulations to Andy Robertson who took home the Eddie Riach trophy with his 200m Backstroke time, being the fastest time after age adjustment. Finally, well done to Susan Jensen, who after volunteering to announce at our SCB meet, participated in her first competition and made valuable contributions to the relays.

Atmosphere on poolside was great with everyone enjoying catching up with friends not seen since 2020. All swimmers appreciative of the team support and everyone keen to congratulate and feedback on each other swims and achievements.

As part of the prize giving, the winners of the Scottish Masters 2019 Decathlon (compiled by Silver City’s John MacLean) were also announced. Congratulations to Audrey Cooper coming runner up in the Womens Decathlon, with Kelly McIntosh and Laura Robertson Honey making the top 10. Congratulations also to Martin Snape who won the Mens Decathlon whilst representing Silver City, with Brian Bain, Keith Dunnett, and John MacLean making the top 10.

Congratulations to all and we’re very much looking forward to the British Masters at ASV in June.
